What does the Starbucks® roast spectrum mean?
Starbucks® coffees are classified by three roast profiles:
Starbucks® Blonde Roast
Blonde-roasted coffees are lighter in body with mellow flavors. This roast is perfect for when you want a soft, subtle coffee that will gently awaken the senses.
Starbucks® Medium Roast
As we move up the spectrum, the beans are roasted darker. The STARBUCKS® medium-roasted coffee range have a smooth, balanced body and a richness of flavor. These coffees are perfect for the in-between palate – not too soft, not too strong.
Starbucks® Dark Roast
At the top of the spectrum, you will find our darkest-roasted coffees. These feature a fuller body and robust, bold flavors. These coffees are perfect for when you want an intense cup that will indulge the senses.
Starbucks® By NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® coffee pod FAQs
HOW MANY COFFEE PODS WILL I NEED FOR ONE CUP?
All our Starbucks® Dolce Gusto® drinks require one or two coffee pods. The amount of water you add to each is of course up to you, but our suggestion for how to prepare each hot drink is printed on the box.
If you have an automatic machine, you can follow the bars on the pods and match this up to the number of bars you select on your coffee machine’s volume selector. This gives you the right serve every time.
HOW DO I KNOW WHICH COFFEE POD TO USE FOR WHICH DRINK?
The top of the coffee pod will tell you which drink it is, but you will need to look at the colour of the base to see which kind of pod it is, whether milk or coffee:
- Milk pods have a white base
- Coffee pods have a black or dark brown

You can buy Starbucks® by NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® coffee pods from supermarkets such as AEON, AEON Big, Village Grocer, Jaya Grocer, Lotus’s, Sunshine, Mercato and Cold Storage.
WHAT PODS FIT NESCAFÉ® DOLCE GUSTO® MACHINES?
To get the best results from using our NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® coffee machines, we always recommend you use Starbucks® By NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® or NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® coffee pods, as these are specially created for use with our machines.
WHAT DO THE BARS MEAN ON STARBUCKS® BY NESCAFÉ® DOLCE GUSTO® COFFEE PODS?
The bars on the Starbucks® by NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto® pods reference how much water and/or milk is required to get it to the right strength. On our automatic coffee machines, it’s simply a case of setting the bars on the machine to match those on the pod.
DO YOU TAKE THE LID OFF COFFEE PODS?
No, you don’t need to take the lid off coffee pods. The machine will pierce the pod for you during the process.
CAN YOU USE COFFEE POD WITHOUT A MACHINE?
In order to get the delicious flavour you know and love, you should always use coffee pods with a machine. Where some suggest it’s possible to use coffee pods without a machine, we don’t recommend it as it will compromise on taste.
WILL YOU PRODUCE ANY OTHER KINDS OF COFFEE PODS IN THE FUTURE?
We are always looking to add new drink varieties to the range and we launch on average one to two new products a year.

CAN I USE STARBUCKS® BY NESPRESSO® CAPSULES IN MY NESPRESSO® MACHINE?
Yes. The Starbucks® by Nespresso® range combines rich, authentic Starbucks® roast and ground coffee with genuine Nespresso® capsules.
ARE STARBUCKS® BY NESPRESSO® CAPSULES RECYCLABLE?
Yes. Starbucks® by Nespresso® capsules are recyclable.
WHAT IS DONE WITH THE RECYCLED ALUMINIUM AND COFFEE GROUNDS?
Our recycled capsules go back into the aluminium value chain, where they are recycled into a range of uses – such as car engines, bicycles, computers, soda cans, or even new capsules. We also re-use the coffee grounds to create nutrient-rich compost or green energy.

You can drop off your filled recycling bags at these locations:

Yes. Starbucks® by Nespresso® capsules are Halal certified.

WHAT IS C.A.F.É PRACTICES?
C.A.F.E. Practices is a verification programme, not a one-time certification system, because we believe there is always more work to do to ensure the long-term supply of high quality coffee and to positively impact farming communities.
Starbucks® is continuously improving this programme by working with groups such as Conservation International to measure the true impact our purchasing programmes have on participating farmers and producers. The programme allows us to gain insights into the challenges faced by farmers and supply chain operations in more than 30 different coffee-producing countries around the world.
HOW CAN YOU GUARANTEE THAT THE COFFEE IN THE STARBUCKS® PRODUCTS IS ETHICALLY SOURCED?
Starbucks® is committed to promoting sustainable coffee growing practices and environmental protections along with its standards for high-quality. The company partnered with Conservation International in 2004 to develop Starbucks® coffee buying practices, called C.A.F.É Practices. Today, 99% of Starbucks® coffee has been verified as ethically sourced by Conservation International, helping to ensure your coffee is brought to you in a sustainable way that protects the environment and helps coffee farming communities thrive. (The other 1% typically comes from new regions Starbucks® is exploring.)
